Democratic Socialism is a political and economic system where the means of production are democratically controlled, meaning that ordinary people have real power, freedom, and collective control of our economy, government, and overall society. It exists in opposition to our current capitalist system in which the majority are exploited to benefit the few.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with over 100,000 members across all 50 states. DSA is a political and activist organization, not a political party, that fights for reforms that empower working people. DSA members come from many political perspectives. But we all believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We work to end oppression based on race, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, and more. And we understand how these forms of oppression connect with capitalism.
